The quasar luminosity function measures the number of quasars per cubic megaparsec and absolute magnitude. It is one of the most important tools for studying the active galactic nucleus population and how they have evolved in time. Our investigation estimates this function through a probabilistic approach. We model the observed density of quasars using a bidimensional non-homogeneous Poisson Process in the space of absolute magnitude times redshift. A series of adjustable parametrized models are tested and we use maximum likelihood and the Bayesian Information Criteria (BIC) to select the best model, from wich the corresponding quasar luminosity function is obtained. Finally a residual analysis is made to study the goodness of fit.

Spectral
analysis is the technical process of a complex signal decomposition
into simpler parts. Many physical processes are better described as a
sum of many individual frequency components; alternatively a signal can
be divided into short segments and the spectrum analysis can be applied
to these individual segments. From the point of view of the study of
Waves Sea, the spectrum plays a vital role and it is interpreted as the
energy in the time series during the period. This study is based on
analysis of the spectrum associated to data from the North Sea in the
year of 1999, taken in North Alwyn platform, stored in the Heriot-Watt
University in Edinburgh, separated in periods of 20 minutes. The total
of the studied periods is 244. Thus, it was determined that there is
information that does not add information to the problem, and it
represents noise, which is the 3% of energy and it was not taken for the
study. The spectrum was divided into 12 subintervals. Autoregressive
models were fitted under the scheme Box-Jenskin and Reinsel. The model
was studied until the best possible approximation for each subinterval
was found by the statistical properties obtained by each model, together
with the respective forecasts.

estandarización, y componentes principales), y otras no convencionales
(cálculos de los log-cociente centrado,
e índices nutricionales individuales nutricionales individuales y
0,98 kg·árbol-1), y componentes principales no rotados/rendimiento
anteriormente indicados.

Abstract
The yield of a given crop is the result of a multiplicity of variables
whose complex interactions make its prediction difficult to achieve by regular
means. Generalized regression artificial
neural networks represent a promising alternative for such a task, due to its
ability to model non-linear relationships, without the need of knowing its
explicit nature. The present work aimed
at assessing such approximation for predicting the potential yield of a crop of
‘Valencia’ orange (Citrus
sinensis L. Osbeck),
using the concentration of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and
magnesium in the foliar tissue as predicting variables. Special emphasis was placed in the
mathematical treatment of the input/output data, using conventional techniques
(normalization, standardization, and principal components) as well as other
less common (row-centered log ratios, and individual and global nutritional
indices from the Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis System). The results showed that, among the ones
studied, the individual nutrient indices/normalized yield combination (Prediction
error= 0.98 kg·tree-1), and the unrotated principal
components/normalized yield combination
(Prediction error= 0.51 kg·tree-1) resulted in the
development of the neural networks with the highest yield prediction
capabilities, as evidenced by the previously indicated prediction errors.
